I.  Introductory Tandem Flights

Paragliding is the simplest and purest form of aviation using a non-powered inflated wing to launch from hillsides and mountain slopes.  A paraglider is transportable in a backpack. The airfoil‘s performance allows one to soar with the freedom of a bird!   Using tandem paragliders, the pilot and passenger are seated in separate harnesses but attached together, front and back.  The glider is designed to accommodate two people without sacrificing performance or security.  During launch, the student passenger must run a short distance down a gentle slope (10-30 ft.) to assist the pilot. With this forward momentum, the glider gently lifts the pilot and passenger from the ground.  There is no “jumping off” of any mountain cliffs.  The entire experience takes approximately two hours.  Flights vary depending on the conditions of each day.  With favorable thermal conditions, the pilot may choose to maneuver the glider and utilize the air currents to gain several thousand feet above Aspen Mountain.  Achieving altitudes up to 18,000 feet is not uncommon!  Ages range from 3 to 80 (+) years old.  Virtually anyone can fly!

II.  What are our credentials?

Aspen Paragliding’s professional tandem pilots are certified by the United States Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association, as Advanced Tandem Instructors.  This is the highest attainable rating. Our tandem pilots are the finest in the country and are committed to make your flying experience secure and unforgettable.

III.  Where to Meet

Aspen Paragliding is located at 426 South Spring St. We meet at our Shop for all flights.

IV.  What to Wear

Wind chill protection and proper footwear are the highest priorities to enhance the enjoyment and comfort of your flight. The summit of Aspen Mountain is 11,200'.  Walshes' launch (morning site) is at 10,800' and Ruthies' launch (afternoon site) is 10,500'.   Participants should be prepared

for cooler temperatures. Layered clothing with a wind proof outer shell is best.  Sunglasses are normally recommended.  Ankle support/ hiking boots are also highly recommended.  Sandals, clogs, etc. are not acceptable.  Aspen Paragliding supplies all technical gear (helmet, harness,

etc.). We highly recommend bringing a small camera or video to record this fantastic experience, as your hands will be free to operate a camera during the flight.  (There are cameras available at our shop as well.)

V.  Access & Rates

A tandem flight costs $250.  We access our launch sites on Aspen Mountain in the comfort of our 4x4 company vehicle. Following the flight, we supply transportation from the landing zone back to our shop in downtown Aspen.

VI.  Landing Zones - How to get there

The Walshes' landing zone is about 2 miles east of Aspen on Highway 82.  It is located at the entrance of the Northstar Wildlife Nature Preserve.  It is easily found where the road straightens with a car park area on the right, as one drives toward Independence Pass.  Look for a windsock in the adjacent field.

The Ruthies' landing zone is located just west of Aspen on the "Marolt" property.  Drive west (down valley) on highway 82 and make a right at the traffic circle onto Castle Creek Road towards the hospital.  On Castle Creek Road take the first left toward the windsock and field.  There is a small parking lot next to the field.

VII.  Reservations/Cancellation Policy

Most tandem flights are reserved in advance, as there is limited space each day.  All flights are wind and weather dependent. All pilots are constantly evaluating flying conditions.  Flights are scheduled 4 flights per day / 7 days per week.   Summer flight times are: 6:45 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 5 p.m.  A Visa, Mastercard, Discover or Amex number is required to guarantee all reservations.

A fee of $250 is charged for cancellations within 24 hours of a scheduled flight, if Aspen Paragliding is unable to fill the space.  Should the weather necessitate a schedule change, guests are not charged and rescheduling is attempted for a future date & time.  We recommend scheduling a flight early during one's visit, as this allows more flexibility for weather related delays.
